Conan Exiles released for PlayStation 4 in 2018 is a survival sandbox set in the harsh Hyborian Age of Conan the Barbarian. Players must manage hunger thirst and shelter while building homes crafting weapons and exploring a vast world filled with dungeons creatures and hostile NPCs. It can be played solo or with others in multiplayer with a map that spans deserts jungles snow and more.
The game’s biggest strength is its massive immersive world with a variety of biomes and secrets to uncover. Unique systems like capturing thralls to work in your base and worshipping gods for special crafting bonuses set it apart from other survival games. Conan Exiles is at its best when played with friends since cooperation makes survival and building more rewarding.
The weaknesses hold it back. The PS4 version struggles with performance issues including frame drops bugs and clunky menus. The learning curve is very steep with little in the way of tutorials which leaves new players confused about how to craft or progress. Combat feels slow and repetitive and the interface on console is awkward to use.
Overall Conan Exiles is ambitious and offers deep survival mechanics with memorable moments especially in co-op play. However technical flaws and rough gameplay design prevent it from being the polished experience it could have been. For dedicated survival fans it can be rewarding but casual players may find it too frustrating.
